Brooklet, Georgia Dr. Bohlke was introduced to the MagMutual Board of Directors through his mentor in private practice who was also a long-time policyholder. Not only was the experience of serving on a committee rewarding, but Dr. Bohlke believes his work on the board helps fellow physicians around the state as well.

Garrett Barnes, M.D. Dr. Barnes has had a very productive and successful career both in family medicine and emergency medicine for over 20 years. He currently serves as an Emergency Physician at Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Georgia (with 7 years as Medical Director) and as a Certified Tactical Physician, Reserve Deputy Sheriff, Chief Medical Officer T.E.M.S. for both Floyd County / Rome S.W.A.T. as well as State S.W.A.T. (Georgia State Patrol) Certified Advanced S.W.A.T. Sniper in what initially began as a recovery project. Dr. Barnes began volunteering time to local law enforcement special ops providing embedded medical support- which has blossomed into a second full time career. Dr. Barnes received his undergraduate degree from Indiana University in 1992 with a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in Chemistry. He attended Medical school at Loyola University Chicago Stritch where he graduated with AOA honors. Dr. Barnes completed his residency in Family Medicine, with honors, in Rome Georgia in 1999, followed by private practice at the Harbin Clinic also in Rome, Georgia. |

Paul H. Earley, M.D., DFASAM
Dr. Earley has been an Addiction Medicine Physician for 36 years. He treats all types of addictive disorders and specializes in the assessment and treatment of health care professionals. As a therapist, he works with patients already in recovery, providing long term therapy for those who suffer from this disease. His professional expertise extends to advocacy for professionals before agencies and licensing boards.
Dr. Earley is a dynamic speaker and educator; he speaks and trains on topics of addiction, its treatment and addiction among health care professionals. In addition, he trains therapists about the neurobiological basis of psychotherapy. In his travels, he has provided training in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Switzerland.
He is the author of three books and numerous articles on addiction and its treatment. He is a contributing author to the ASAM Textbook: Principles of Addiction Medicine, as author of the chapter: Physician Health Programs and Addiction among Physicians. He is a contributing author to the ASAM Criteria. His two most recent books Recovery Mind Training and The Implementation Guide to RecoveryMind Training are published by Central Recovery Press.

Lasa Joiner Joiner has been professionally involved in a wide range of health policy issues, and she currently serves on several boards and foundations which support improvements in the delivery of healthcare to all Georgians. Currently, Joiner is President of the Georgia Foundation for Public Health.

Laura Jean Smallwood, DVM, DACVIM (SAIM)
Dr. Laura Smallwood’s veterinary experience includes 36 years of practice, the majority of that as a small animal internal medicine specialist and practice owner. As a mindfulness educator, Dr. Smallwood’s focus has been on the development of content relevant to the veterinary profession. Her interests include mindfulness as a methodology for improving health and well-being outcomes, stress physiology and the role that mindsets play in stress outcomes, mindful communication as a strategy to mitigate conflict in the workplace, and the role that kindness and compassion practices can play in protecting against burnout. Dr. Smallwood is a trained Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Teacher, a registered yoga teacher, and a member of the teaching faculty at Atlanta Mindfulness Institute.
